NRLS brings together teams and players from across North America for organized Rocket League competition, live broadcasts and community events.
NRLS stands for Northern Rocket League Series. Northern Series is the shorter name used for the same organization, launched in 2022.
NRLS organizes competitive, team-based Rocket League seasons across North America. Matches are streamed live on Twitch with a dedicated production, and the league also holds community and charity events alongside its regular seasons.
NRLS is a community project: its entire team is made up of volunteers.
The season starts with three days of Swiss-format qualifiers. Initial seeding uses a player score made up of 50 % of their ranked 2v2 MMR and 50 % of their ranked 3v3 MMR. Each team’s score is the average of its three highest-rated players using this calculation. A team finishes its qualifiers as soon as it reaches three wins or three losses. Ties in the standings are broken using the Buchholz system. Teams are then placed into three divisions of eight: A, B and C.
During the first four weeks, each team plays every other team in its division once. The bottom two teams are then eliminated. The six remaining teams play each other a second time, with the top four advancing to the playoffs.
Teams play every other team in their division once during the first four weeks. The top six in Division B stay in B and play each other a second time over three weeks. The bottom two in B join the top four in C to form a new six-team Division C, where each team plays the others once over three weeks. The bottom four teams from the original Division C are eliminated.
The top four teams in Division A compete in double-elimination playoffs, with best-of-seven series (BO7). Matches take place on Thursday and Friday of the week after the final regular-season matches.
The six Division B teams and the top four teams from the reshuffled Division C compete in a shared bracket. The top two in B enter in the second round of the upper bracket. Teams finishing third through sixth in B start in the first round of the upper bracket, while the four qualifiers from C start in the lower bracket. Matches take place on Thursday and Friday of the week after the Division A finals.

NRLS organizes and operates its own competitions. There is no separate parent organization behind the league.
The league is administered by an all-volunteer team responsible for season operations, broadcast production and team support.
NRLS directly operates the Ligue Académique Québécoise de Rocket League (LAQRL), a Quebec school league reserved for teams made up of students from the same Quebec high school, CEGEP or university. LAQRL is operated directly by NRLS and runs on the same platform. It is not an independent sister league.
At some LAN events in Quebec, including LAN ETS, NRLS runs the event's Rocket League tournament. The LAN itself is not organized by NRLS.
